Notary and Apostille

Registration and Records will notarize documents and the NC Secretary of State can issue the Apostille.

Notary and Apostille Process

Our office is able to mail notarized documents back to the requestor, or send it to the NC Secretary of State (please see instructions below). If your diploma, transcript, and/or degree verification needs a notary or an Apostille please notify Registration and Records at graduation@ncsu.edu.

You can order your paper transcript here. You must order your transcript for pick-up and notify graduation@ncsu.edu when it is ready for pick-up.

If you do not have your original diploma, you must first order a replacement diploma.

Mail-In Instructions

  1. Return your original diploma to:
    • Department of Registration and Records

  2. If the authenticated diploma is being used outside of the United States and needs an Apostille, please follow steps 3-5. 
  3. Send a check or money order for $10.00 to the address above, made payable to the NC Secretary of State (their fee per document for an Apostille or authentication)
  4. Provide a self-addressed stamped envelope or pre-paid labeled envelope for the return of your documents. The envelope should be large enough to fit your 11 X 14 diploma. Stamps and other USPS shipping supplies can be purchased via USPS. Pre-paid shipping labels can be purchased via UPS or FedEx. The self-addressed stamped envelope or pre-paid labeled envelope should be addressed from the NC Secretary of State Office (address is listed below) to the individual/organization, requesting the apostille.

  5. Review and complete the NC Authentication Office Cover Letter Form. Please make sure to indicate the name of the country that the documents are being authenticated for on the form. This form should be included along with your other mailing materials.
